How short can I make it?

Wtf?
This is from the NFA link - at the bottom:

"David A. Tomlinson passed away Sep 18, 2007...We are all poorer for his loss.

Send an email to David A. Tomlinson."

YOU cant cut anything It has to be "re-barreled"

Statements like this annoy me.

Personally, after reading the couple of related posts regarding shortened shotties, I hope to save up, buy a nice old break action, and turn it into a great pack/survival/protection gun.

Guys like Darrel (and others) have already documented how this is done. Sounds like a fun project to me. I hope the originator of thi spost wil show us how his project progresses (if you go for it).

I was away from the computer for a few days, thanks for all the info guys! Im going to measure it out tonight to see if thats what I want to do. Hell I still got to shoot it for the first time. Ill go embarrass my brother and have a few rounds of skeet shooting with him!

they are right, I am making one right now I spoke with the rcmp and as long as I'm 18" in barrel and 26" in OAL I'm ok. I Haven't cut my barrel yet but I am going to cut it a few centimeters long just in case.

always cut on the long side . then you can square it up in the lathe without making it too short .a friend with a lathe is a wonderful thing if you are cutting a barrel . measure twice and cut once as the saying goes .

As short as you want depending on your RPAL restrictions....;)

Wrong!!! Cutting it below 18" will make it prohib, not restricted.

Making statements like that is dangerous, disagree with what others have said? Fine, show us where you're getting this from.

OK

I just want to make sure now - Ithaca M37 pump had a model with a 14" barrel - can I cut mine down to also 14" and still have it remain NON-Restricted OR am I limited to 18" so it still remains NON-Restricted ?

You cannot cut it to 14". You can cut it to 18" or you can buy one of the factory original 14" barrels and put it on your shotgun.

You cannot cut it down past 18 or 18.5......cutting below that is illegal and makes it prohibited. The barrel has to be manufactured at a shorter length by a licensed business in order to be restricted or non restricted.

Like others have said already, you cannot cut a barrel on a pump action below 18", but you can replace it with a barrel that was manufactured at 14".

Hope you find one but those barrels for the Ithaca are fairly rare. Keep your eyes peeled on the EE, thats how I found mine. Would be nice if Dlask would make barrels for shotguns other than just the 870.
