I've built three 7"ARs, and owned a DLASK built MINI Moose.
They are LOUD and the flash is quite impressive ...
To the point it is very distracting to your range neighbors,
and they WILL complain.
5.56 NATO ammo out of one of my 7" barreled builds chronoed at about 900 fps less than the same load from a 16 " . The shot to shot velocity variation with the 7" was much more significant than with a 16". For paper punching, this doesn't really matter, but for XRATED Zombi Mutants, you may want more punch.
I currently have a 10.5" LMT, and find it balances perfect for fast close paper punching, and it is significantly quieter than the 7". Still a bit of a flame thrower with BALL ammo.
I think my previous build with a 14.5" is probably the ideal length, and though I find my 16" LAR 6.8 feels a bit longer than I am used to, it still balances well. The longer barrel does improve the 6.8 [ and the 5.56 ] threshold for reliable expansion/fragmentation ... if that is mission critical to your mutant zombi hunting role.
just one person's opinion ...
