How the #%$# do you get the stock screw out of and enfield

I put my wrench in the vice and pushed the buttstock towards the wrench as I twisted it on the wrench. Don't want to be stripping that soft supple 100 year old steel bolt

Try putting the whole assembly in a freezer and freezing it. Once frozen put a blunt instrument in there and bang it good and hard. A few cycles of this usually works. Some industrial shops will blow you a CO2 ball from a CO2 tank. Chip the ball and mix the chips with alcohol and pour it in. The chip/alcohol mix is very cold but not enough to make the metal brittle. You can also try heat using boiling water and pouring it on the receiver to get it to expand away from the threads. Do both at once and it should free up.

The thing with the brace is its got a wide shaft so you always have good contact over a good part of the stockbolt slot & because of the angle of the end just the act of trying to undo the bolt there is always good downwards pressure, plus there is no need for a vice.
