How To Assemble The Lee Pro 1000

go to lee precision, click on instruction sheets and swing down to pro 1000 press- that opens a pdf file that duplicates the enclosed instruction sheet- however, be aware that the POWDER MEASURE has undergone a manufacturing change in which they no longer use a spring, but a chain to open and close- either keep the spring and the associated lever( recommended) or if you change the lever to the one with the holes, you have to change the carrier as well as there is NO HOLE to string the chain through on the old one- if you want to send pictures of what "spares" you have, we should be able to tell you what they're for if you can't discern that from the manual- wasn't i down this road with you already about 6 months back?

The most frustrating part of mine was the priming system, here's a couple tips I got from others to make it go more smooth...

1. spray some teflon lube on a pipe cleaner and run it down the primer feed.
2. put a couple extra washers under the back bolt to "cant" the press forward slightly.
3. play with the indexing screw! My shell holder was coming across too fast, and clipping the primer, flipping it over. NOWHERE in the directions I received did it mention this screw. I found reference to it on someone else's website, and it solved a lot of headaches.
4. last thing I did was replace the chain with a leather bootlace. Others I have known have broke the chain, I have had it slack off on me not giving a full charge. The leather lace has enough give so it won't break and you can tie it tight.

Send me a note if you have questions.

ive got the instructions for the latest model right in front of me-page six at the bottom, zero adjustment for shell plate indexing- as far as the chain replacement goes, i got a bunch of ball chain from cdn tire for about 3 bucks, however i still like the old spring and lever system best- it CAN'T BREAK- the mouth of the case pushes on the collar to open the powder feed, and when the case retracts on the downstroke, the SPRING PULLS feed closed-
when you mount this thing. there is a problem with getting at the spent primers as it dumps them into the base and there's no way to get them out of there without dismounting the press- there's a couple of ways to beat this- 1 -drill a couple of 1 inch holes in your bench and put a cup underneath to catch the spent primers- this is mentioned in the instructions for the OLD TURRET PRESS- and the case the dies came in can serve as a cup
2 put enough washers between the the press and your bench to raise it enough to slip a ruler or something in there to 'flick" the spent primers out of there-you can also incorporate the forward cant at the same time- some guys also have put o rings on the bar at the back improve the primer feed
YOU SHOULD NOT USE THE FORWARD CANT IDEA FOR 223- it throws the case out of alignment with the decapping pin and will jam

T star I think you are right:confused: I got carried away with motor cycles for about 6 months. Done with that know for winter and back to reloading and shooting.

Thanks for the time to go over this again.
