How to avoid rust blueing a certain surface

Just about ready to start rust blueing my second gun. But one thing I noticed when I did the first one was that parts that I did not want to blue, like threads etc, would still rust. How do I prevent these surfaces from rusting without oiling them?

Maybe shellac them, I don't know...

Brownells used to sell a stop off lacquer to apply if you did not want a specific portion to be blued....it would probably work for this application as well....

Go to a Craft shop and buy a small bottle of lacquer. Coat the places you don't blued and let dry throughly. To remove the lacquer, use acetone.

Nail polish & remover from wifey, g/f, or dollar store.
