So here I sit with all my hand loaded 223 Service Rifle ammo and thousands of heads, primers, powder and prepped cases just begging me to be fired down range.

I told them they had to wait out... for a bit.

Rather than wait for that highly illegal OIC to be overturned so I can return to blasting that ammo with my ARs, I just ordered the following:
a. 223 Deadline action with IBI barrel from Ultimatum Precision;
b. LSS-XL MDT chassis;
c. TriggerTech trigger;
d. Half a dozen poly MDT 223 mags; and
e. Insite Arms 5/8x24 223 muzzle brake (not cheap).

So once the OIC is trashed, I'll replace the bolt head and barrel and move up to a 6.5 PRC or some such. I'm aware there is a little bit of fiddling to do to get the action into the chassis.

Can't wait to get this rig up and running. I feel better already, and so do my loads.

68-69gr or 75-77gr? Either or make for good practice ammo. I'm normally good for north of 7k rounds a year (75gr) in my .223 trainer barrel that I screw onto my backup match rifle. Enjoy!

69 SMKs for now. I’ll probably move up shortly, I’m kinda looking forward to what i can do with a quality bolt gun.

Bolt action is better anyway! I’ve got a impact precision 223 build from insite and also a bighorn tl3 223 that I may some day turn into a 308

I have a Remington 700 in a AICS chassis that I chambered two barrels for, one in 223 and one in 308, I just swap barrels and bolts, and use the other magazines. Of course the scope needs re-zeroing. But I have bought a lot of 308 ammo specifically for the m14, and to be honest, its not precision level in a bolt action, doubles the group size compared to hand loads, so its not that fun to shoot unless you are just ringing a gong or something binary hit or miss.

I looked at a variety of production bolt guns in 223 including Tikka T3x, Remi 700 etc, something i should have mentioned at the top is that I’m a lefty and I’ll be dammed if I’m going to drop 3.5K on a decent bolt gun rig that doesn’t fit me! Production precision lefties in 223 are just not out there right now.

3.5k?? Go get a custom action at insite arms, gobigtactical or bighorn sales and have a barrel installed. Much better rifle for your money! I’ve had pretty well all the popular factory bolt actions and now it may have two rifles built on custom actions. The tikka is decent option for a factory gun but still if your spending that much just go custom action and barrel. Much nicer

So that’s what I’m doing, an Ultimatum Deadline with IBI barrel.

In 223, if so let me know how it goes as I am doing the same.

And to all those that want to say there are better options out there, I have heard them all, this is a project for me and I knew it going in.

My only issue right now is not being able to cycle snap caps effectively, I am able to feed brass so I want to load up some dummy rounds to do some more testing but it seems to work fine.

Will do, i should get everything in about two weeks. I’m gonna rip my Nightforce 2.5-10x42 off my SR rig and throw it on the Deadline. Pics and range report to follow.
You know, it’s funny, this rifle won’t be the hardest hitter, or flattest shooter, the scope isn’t massive, but it’s custom and I can’t wait to give it a go!

We are doing a .223 repeater with PGW action, Krieger 7T, MDT chassis and will determine trigger this week.We have an ISSF reamer coming and have a JGS reamer with longer freebore for the variety of heavier bullets. Not sure if the 85.5 grain will be too long for the MDT mags. Might have to use Lapua 77.

Also have a KS arms single and repeater actions coming.

I've got a ruger ranch in .223 , I dont reload for 5.56 even though I HAD an AR in 5.56 Thankfully I can still take this down to the range and plink with it. I pressure formed all the IVI that came from the brass pile after sorting into its own little pile.. that normally gets returned in the brass I sell him. then I go through that stuff sort and seperate. etc
