For those that carry for bear protection.

With a Dominion Arms Outlaw double-barrel. Can it be carried cocked and locked? (is there a manual safety?)

Is it safe to carry with hammers down on loaded shells (transfer bar or firing pin block?)

Or is it only safe to carry unloaded? (keep two shells handy?)

It should have a half-#### position. If it doesnt, theres something wrong with it or the people who made it. Hammers down is unsafe as a good smack could ignite the primers, full cocked could be accidentally set off/trigger could break suddenly. Half #### is designed so the hammer cant build enough energy to ignite the primer.

There are always better options. But if you can't get the job done with 2 blasts of 00 buck then there's something wrong with you.

Large bears at 30m + Buckshot = Useless

Not sure what type of choke is in that gun but I don't know what kind of patterns you will be getting!

People have a hard enough time killing deer with buckshot!

I will never use it for anything but home defence against people!

It does have a manual slide safety. Also when the hammers are un cocked they don't contact the pin even with quite a bit of pressure. Still wouldn't trust it loaded on my back

I carry mine with hammers down for just walking around. When tracking a bear, it's cocked, with the safety on. I bought mine specifically for bloodtrailing bears. When it comes to bear defence, accuracy is the last thing a gun needs. If you ever really need the gun to save your life, the range will be measured in feet or inches, not yards!! I have had many encounters with bears while guiding, and been bluff charged several times. I wouldn't even think of firing in self defence till that bear is 10 ft or closer, 99% of the time it's a bluff!

Buckshot is overkill in a HD situation.

To the OP, I wouldn't really want to trust my life to a Chinese exploder shotgun. Spend the extra money and get something decent .

I believe pretty much any 12 ga. load is plenty jam for HD. At 10 yds, most loads are still a solid shot column before the shot cup opens and discards, basically a shorter penetrating slug. The smaller shot is easily stopped by the walls in your home so you dont accidentally injure or kill someone in another part of the house, or outside. Buckshot is a nightmare, but really is overkill in close. It really shines past 15 yds when it opens up and causes multiple wound channels, exerting massive energy. I remember an LEO on here stating that there really is no difference in wounding caused by any size shot or slug at close range, so you might as well take the security of not over-penetrating walls.

Do some research and shoot some game and the answer will be apparent to you.

What does that have to do with a HD situation which is what I was talking about. mlehtovaara said he would only use buckshot for home defence and I was disagreeing with him and stating that birdshot was best for that purpose for many reasons, one of which was overpenetration. R1-Dave and supernova seem to agree with me. I really don't know what shooting game has to do with it. You still haven't even said what it is you disagree with.

Birdshot is made for that very reason!

I do agree it will stop most any intruder though, but it depends if you are shooting to stop the intruder slowly, or blow him to pieces!

I wouldn't hesitate to use birdshot but I am quickly learning that if you need to shoot someone you better make sure they are dead quickly, and don't have any chance to pull a hollywood comeback. You know where the guy appears dead but jumps up at the last minute when you aren't expecting it!

Talking to a few cops at the range a few weeks ago, one mentioned being in a shootout, and having to shoot the suspect 12 times while his partner shot him 10.

They were talking about how ####ed up the guy was, and even after a few shots to the chest he kept coming at them with a knife.

Basically moral of the store is shoot until there is no doubt he is not getting up.

Birdshot doesn't even penetrate straight through a grouse at 10 yards, never mind an intruder!

the birdshot must be used close enough that it is still a solid shot column. Once it spreads, it loses all that combined energy and each tiny pellet only has its own single mass to create a wound channel. Getting shot 22 times is F**KING Insane!
