How to clean a barrel quickly?

Are you supposed to clean the barrel? I use some M-Pro7, let it soak for about 10 minutes, run a brush and then a patch and that's it.

I sort of subscribe to the Schumann theory of barrel cleaning. (Very last paragraph in the following document) => NO BARREL CLEANING IS THE BEST

Forgive the dumb question but do you just throw the boresnake in with laundry once in a while or something or how do you clean it?
