I do not own a M14 but am looking for to get one,

but after browsing through the forum, I am still confused:

1. How do you clean your M14 with scope mounted on ?
do not tell me you dismount the scope every time when you clean it ....

it looks like it is very hard to get the bolt out when it is mounted with those famous scope mount, like the SADLAK, ARMS. SMITH....

I own an SKS and it is mount like this and this kind of scope....very very tough and has no need to dismount when cleanning..

how about M14?

another questioln:

because lots of low-profile scope mount has issue with jamming; some people highly recommend those "open style" scope mount, like the old ARMS 18, and its Promag copy....
but does this kind of scope mount will allow the ejected shells hitting the scope ?
I know SKS has such problem...but does M14 ?

I run a Sadlak Airborne mount. Sits a tiny bit higher then the Arms 18, but out of roughly 3000 rounds through the rifle with the mount, I have only had 2 cases jam between the receiver and mount. As well, I havn't had to tighten the mount since installation. As far as cleaning, it does not hinder removal of the bolt, it only limits you to access the internal portion of the receiver by the bottom or side, not the top. If you use q-tips and make sure you clean all the little corners, it is fine.

Edit: I have never had an ejected case from my rifle hit the scope I have mounted, only the guy 10ft away from me shooting his SKS has hit my scope...

LOL

as far as my research, Sadlak Airborne mount is a "close" style, and it has a so-called 45(?) degree reflector to help eject the case
so it should not have the "hitting the scope" problem...

maybe it is not so hard as I thought to remove bolt/ or put in with scope mounted on...????

I have an ARMS18, and ejected brass did get jammed. I visited the Tactical Teacher and he helped me out by cutting the ejector spring a little as per the forum stickies.

the bold is still removable, but takes a little more encouragement.

i am told there is a chance of ejected brass hitting the scope but have not yet experienced this myself.

I have the m14.ca CASM mount on mine. Looks like the scope has been hit with brass twice. Twice out of around 500 rounds.

I run an ARMS 18 with low QRW rings on my M-14S. The bolt can be taken out easily with the mount & scope on.

I had stovepiping issues with a Leatherwood mount so I switched de bolt guts with USGI parts. The ejection profile changed dramatically and I don't think , even with the Pro Mag mount, casings could hit the scope tube.

I have a CASM II mount (m14.ca) on my 18.5" M305

Only about a 100 rounds so far. No scope hits with ejected casings. Bolt can be removed for maintenance without any trouble.
If the scope mount does get removed it will absolutely require a vertical re-zero as the tensioning screws get messed with. My windage setting stayed the same after mount and scope removal but as always YMMV.

On my 305 the scope sits low, there is one mark on the scope, but I can't tell if it was from ejection. I'm using the Sage EBR stock, rails everywhere. As for the scope, it has a quick disconnect. Take it off and put it on without bothering my settings!
