Hi all,
I recently received my RPAL (today) in the mail. I've been doing some research for some time and located a few pistols that I have some interest in. One in particular is owned by a coworkers relative. Is there a database available to the public where a guy could confirm that the pistol is: 1. restricted and not a prohib and 2. currently registered.

12(6) prohibited pistol is one that was manufactured or altered to accept a .32 or .25 cartridge, or one that has a barrel less than 105mm in length.
Surely the owner would know if the pistol is registered.
There is no database that you can access that would tell you if a given firearm is registered or not. You could call the CFC, give them the serial number, and ask. If it isn't registered, things could get interesting, though.

That's what I was thinking. I don't want to get the old timer in trouble. From my understanding he's had it for some time. I haven't had a chance to talk to the owner yet but I do have the serial number. Do you know if there is a DB that the police can check? I have a few connections.

Yes, a LEO could check. Here is the catch. They will access through CPIC, and the query willl be logged.

Chances are good if he's an oldtimer that's "had it for quite a long time" it's not registered.
Just measure the barrel! If it's 4 inches or less don't buy it. If it's more than 4 inches and not a .32 or .25 then buy it and register it.

Previously unregistered restricted firearms have been registered without problems.
Yes, the amnesty does not apply.
