how to dispose ammo?

If you don't know what the condition is like and are hesitant to shoot it or pry them apart, take them to the police. They will dispose of them safely for you. I do not recommend burning it or selling it if the safety is questionable.

Send it to the Feds. They can store it next to the nuclear waste and other hazardous material........

I usually take care of unwanted, misfired ammo at our range. I pull the bullets, collect the powder and kill the primers with a few drops of oil in the casings. Bullet lead is melted off for my muzzleloader, the copper jackets and brass go for scrap and the powder is spread in the wifes flowerbed.

Could you pull the bullets simply with two pairs of pliers/pliers and a vise? I imagine primer requires an impact, rather than simply strong pressure, to be ignited (in the off-chance that you pinch the primer).

it is 1 yes.. ONE Round of 38 rim fire.
It is OLD.
Probably hundred years old since stuff hasnt been made in 38RF since the late 1800s...

speaking from experience...EDU(explosives disposal unit) takes ammo to a remote area. We used a huge limestone quarry where the closest wall of the quarry was about 600 meters away. A large, heavy guage steel bin has a layer of sawdust in the bottom. Then we layer ammo and sawdust until all ammo is inside the bin. Cover the bin with a heavy wire mesh screen, douse in diesel fuel, light it and back off a safe distance. The fire cooks off all the ammo.
