Good afternoon,

How does one dispose of old ammunition? An uncle left a cardboard box full of ancient .30 handloads at my father's garage. No documentation on the rounds either, so I won't give them to anyone to shoot, I just want to get rid of them.

Thanks for the input!
Jeff

Don't burn them. Me and a buddy burned our cardboard shotgun boxes at the range once and boom.....a 12 ga was laying there and went off.....primer went 4 inches into his leg. ER doc said if it hit the artery, given how far we were in the bush.....well needless to say I don't throw boxes of 22 in the campfire any more.

Call your local RCMP branch, tell they you have some old ammo to dispose. Drive to said branch, leaving the ammo in your car. Walk in and tell them that you called and stuff. Walk out to car with constable, give them the bag of ammo. Ask for a recpit that you gave them the ammo for distruction sighned with a badge number.

Drive to the store buy some new ammo.

Wow ... One in a BILLION shot right there, hope your buddy bought some lottery tickets.

Disposing of old powder is fun! We have a Boxing Day bonfire every year and I have used it to make a lighting trail up to the pile ala Yosemite Sam. Good times.......good times....
