Phone 1-800-731-4000

Press option 1 for English

Press option 4 for Transfers

Press option 1 to start a transfer

Someone will come on the line and begin the transfer

They will give you a reference number

The buyer will then phone in and quote the reference number (unless he is there with you when you do the transfer)

They will get some information from the buyer

1 to 10 days later your transfer will be approved and the new owner can take possession of the gun

No paperwork required, just have the seller pick up the phone. The seller calls the registry 1-800-731-4000 and initiates the transfer (he needs his name, address and PAL#, your name, address and PAL#, and the serial number, make and model of the firearm at minimum - helps if you have the reg. certificate handy). If you are both in the same room and it is non-restricted, it is usually completed on the spot and you can take posession of the firearm immediately. If not, they will give the seller a TAN# (Transfer authorization number) and you call in with the information to complete it.

If it is restricted, once the seller has called and you have called in with the TAN and give all your info, they forward it to the provincial CFO and will notify you once complete (two days to a week). Feel free to call your CFO to confirm transfer before the paperwork comes out - if you wait for the paperwork, it could be three weeks. At that time, the firearm can be transferred to you.
