Hoping you guys can help me find some ammo.

A few years ago i discovered the best 22lr ammo for target shooting in the backyard without bugging the neighbours: aguila super colibri

https://www.aguilaammo.com/products/22-super-colibri-long-rifle-subsonic-lead-bullet

I live in the northern part of ontario where your only local shop is the sad excuse for a gun dept at crappy tire. Back then though i found a shop online that would sell me a brick of 1000 for what worked out to $8 a box. I ordered that, but when it arrived the only courier who services our area reamed me out and said that ammunition was dangerous goods which they did not carry and they would give me the package this time but any future ammunition would be returned to Sender!

It's taken a couple years, but now that brick is starting to run low. fortunately i have a big trip down to the city this saturday for my kid's sports tournament. i'll be travelling south through barrie down to toronto then east all the way to oshawa. i figured somwhere in that area there would have to be a shop with another brick of 1000 in stock that I could stop in and pick up in person, but I have no idea how to find that shop.

I tried going to the aguila website and using their find a vendor feature, but the closest shop that gives me is in New York!

I tried just using Google, but that only seems to give me listings for online retailers that are out of stock. The only listing I can find that is in stock is, funny enough, my own local crappy Tire! But it says they have only six boxes, and want almost double the price!

So to those of you in the GTA, do you have any tricks for finding a store that has the ammo you want in stock?

thanks!

you can try:
https://ammobin.ca/en/rimfire/.22 LR
then search for colibri - looks like only FOC showing up with inventory (pricing is what it is, a "lil bit" of inflation, if you like cruel jokes) - bear in mind that this is not an exhaustive list of stores by any means

sometimes, you can find things using:
https://arsenalforce.ca/
or
https://allfirearms.ca/

don't know if you know about these, but knowing twice is better than not knowing once
good luck with your search.

Mostly just checking each store's website until you find what you're looking for.

I bought some at Rangeview awhile back, but no idea if they sold out.

Check Victory Ridge, Tenda, Uxbridge, maybe call Williams (who doesn't have a detailed inventory on website) etc.

what I do is a Google search for "aguila super colibri ontario" and then just check each response for stock.
if you come up barren then redo the search with "aguila super colibri canada" and see who ships the cheapest but ship to someone you know in a somewhat larger town with more shipper options so you don't have to deal with that cranky delivery guy who probably just didn't want to have to carry a heavy box.

Tried to pull up canadian tire website for barrie.. no super there, but says there is 9 boxes (of 50) in alliston.. if you get off in cookstown, it's a short detour, though I'm sure you will find more somewhere.

Shows a couple more in orangeville, but that's adding quite a bit of detour.

Does it have to be the super?

Lots of other subsonic ammo available. You’ll drive by many shops on your trip south Parry sound isn’t northern Ontario.

thanks. I mentioned the boxes in stock at my local crappy Tire in the op. I'll grab those if there's no other option, but I was hoping to get a case of at least 20 boxes for a much better price than 13 bucks a box. As I said in the op, last time when I bought the case of 1,000, it worked out to only 8 bucks a box.

As for Northern Ontario, everyone else has their own opinion as to where the north starts. The most traditional cut off is the French River, which is still about 45 minutes north of me. However, the more important thing is where the government draws the line, because there's different laws South the line than north of the line, and more importantly, courier companies have different policies north of the line. Quite a few couriers will not service the North, and since we are officially part of the north according to government, that cuts us off. So bottom line, it's fine if you don't want to call Parry Sound the North, a lot of people don't, but the courier companies do and that's what matters if you're trying to ship ammo!

Thanks for the responses everyone, I appreciate your help.
I did check all of the links you've given, but so far I'm striking out. They either don't carry it or they are out of stock.
I know there are a lot of other subsonics out there, but in my experience the aguila super colibri really does take top prize. It is so quiet, the only thing you hear is the metallic click of the rifle. The first time I shot it I assumed it had not actually fired! Yet for all that quietness, it's still has enough power to take out a squirrel in one shot. I really do think you can't do better for discrete target practice.

any reason this won't work for you? I added 1000 rounds to my cart and was able to check out if i wanted.

Thanks for that, I had gone to that store but I had only looked at their listing for the Thousand round brick, wich their website lists as out of stock. I hadn't thought to see if they would let me add individual boxes. That price is a little better than crappy Tire, not as much as I'd hoped, but as I said in the other thread, certainly better than a kick in the ass.
thanks!

Update:

I stopped in at FOC ajax on my way through on the 401.

It was a nice clean store, staff was friendly. I pointed out that they had the individual boxes on sale and asked if i could just buy the brick. They said of course and it was the easiest thing ever. With the money i saved on the brick price (i think it was $189) i picked up some target rounds of 45 70, which was also a great price around $50 a box.

All in all, a real great stop at this store.
