as said how does someone search for info on a certain weapon that they would not know what calibre and is too rusted to get info off the barrel or receiver. What if it is damaged in a fire ect.Is there a place were you can research out a certian gun like Janes or something like that???

Post a picture of the said piece and someone on here will know what it is.

If you're just interested in that it's chambered for you could do a creosafe chamber cast and measure it. I think you'd want to get the rust out of there first though.

try soaking the barreled action in some CLR around the area where it would be normaly stamped then rinsing with hot water also as stated pics posted might helps as there is alot of well knowladged enthusiests here that can help or at least get you moving in the right direction

X2 SignGuy - Plus, you really can't do a Janes search unless you already know what make firearm you have.

BTW, on this board we refer to our pets as firearms, not weapons.;) Also FYI, semis are referred to as self loaders:D .

After the CLR treatment and a good rinse and drying, try rubbing on some "China White" on any area where you think there is markings. You can get the China White from any craft store. Unless the markings have been purposley filed, you ought to be able to get a good enough reading for the make model and ser.#

Welcome aboard.
