How to find the right reload reciepe into a 30-06 A-Bolt Browning WITH BOSS system?..

I've purchased a A-Bolt Browning, with the BOSS system. I Know how the system works, and I'm happy with it. I've first bought a box factory ammo, and adjusted the boss system. I've easily adjusted it to group 1" @ 100yrds. But now i've got my die set and bullets (165gr nosler boat tail ballistic tip), I wonder how to find the right reciepe?

Do I start with the BOSS setuped at the minimum, then try working up loads at .5 gr increments (like any other rifle), then with the best grouping powder charge I try to play with the BOSS to improve the grouping even more? Or should I try to completely remove the BOSS before testing the powder charges?

I don't want to mess up with randomly playing with too many variables at a time...

it's SUPPOSED top be a harmonic balancer, so you start off with the conventional procedure, then fine tune to get best group- to get best group without it, then put it on , you're BACK-TRACKING and it may not be the same-and factory ammo groups differently than handloads, so THROW out all your accumulated data with factory unless you intend to hunt/shoot with that ammo- it's IRRELEVANT
 
Of course, the BOSS adjustments are differents for every bullet/ammo. But I write it down for future use if needed...

So whatever the BOSS setting is, I try my differents powders charges, then after I found the best powder reciepe, I fine tune with the BOSS? That sound like a lot of fun shooting at the bench! :)

You can not work with two variables. Set the boss at the factory recomended setting for the bullet weight and handload for accuracy. Once this is achieved you can adjust the boss just slightly to see if there is any improvement.

Since you mentioned the 165 grain Nosler BT, I checked the Nosler Guide #4.
The most accurate Powder was IMR4350. The loads were from 53.0 - 57.0 with the 57.0 being determined to be the most accurate load.
With IMR4895, the list accurate load was 44.0 grains which was also the lightest load and a listed velocity of 2560.
From the Sierra manual:
Accuracy Load: Viht N150/ 45.3grs. 2600fps/ 2477ft. lbs.
Hunting Load: RE-15/ 46.4grs. 2700fps/ 2671ft. lbs.
The info I recall on the BOSS suggested the info supplied by Browning was very good and little was accomplished by making changes.
When reloading, start with a load that has a record of performance. Most other variables becomes a waste of components, and a lost of frustration so why try to reinvent the wheel.
The 4895 load will be a good practice load with reduced recoil. For hunting you will want to step it up and the 4350 load will give almost 300 fps more.
 
I will start with IMR4895, as I already use this powder for 303 british. I try to not expand my inventory... As mistakes are easy.
I use others powders for pistol and 7.62X39, so mabe someday i'll try this powder... But first give a try with the 4895!
