Hey all
Pardon my ignorance here but maybe you folks can help me out..
I shoot lefty and have yet to ever see a left handed rifle in .303 british.
I was wondering what caliber rifle I could i pick up and have reamed to a .303

Seems pointless but years ago i was gifted a surplus of ammo and havent been able to use it and would like to give it a go.

All the Sporters like the Parker Hale with the Monte Carlo stocks are RH but the plain stock sporters and the military stock rifles are ambidextrous so just pick one up and fire away.

You could pick up a nice Sporter for under $500.

I’d just get a lee enfield and shoot it from the left side.

This. Especially if the only reason is because you've got a bunch of surplus ammo to use.

I shoot left, and I can't think of any commonly available options for a 303brit other than single shots like the Ruger #1 and Courtney stalking rifle, both of which are quite expensive.

Ambidextrous? Hardly. The bolt is on the wrong side... but if it's just for plinking that's not a huge issue.

I'm sure a skilled smith can get the job done, but it'll be expensive. It would have to be a situation where you just LOVE the 303brit, and just HAVE TO HAVE a lefty bolt gun in that caliber to make it worthwhile IMO.

A Lee Enfield No.4 will sell for over $1200 in adequate condition. They're not making milsurp .303 any more, especially since the Ranger contracts have ended. If your ammo is the reason why you want to shoot it, consider selling the ammo for something much more available on the retail market, and which offers a wider choice of rifles.

If your shooting a LE left handed with irons and don’t have a scope mounted and it’s not that big of a hassle, I’ve hunted with one for awhile before I went and picked up a dedicated LH bolt action. I still hunt with my no.4, the action is so smooth. The only real issue is you have to drop the gun from your shoulder to cycle the bolt, so a follow up shot isn’t as quick as if you were a right hander.

The other option is to practice cycling the bolt with your right hand while supporting the weight of the rifle with your left hand, awkward at first but doable once you have practiced it enough.

Remember, the Ruger No. 1 is a right handed action.

I would search for a nice 1895, and learn to use it well, since it is a bit awkward.

Then keep it forever.

????? Huh? ??????

The No.1 is a dog$hit simple under lever single shot. The M77 is a conventional bolt action. Are you confusing the two?

Best option if you can live with a 28 inch barrel which seems most common.

I sold a carbine version a couple years back, so they are out there. Gunsmiths used to convert RH bolt actions to LH back in the day. Theoretically, you should be able to rebarrel a LH standard magnum action to run 303's. Bolt size would work, just have to work out feeding. - dan
