I have never transported a restricted in Alberta, and since I'm getting my pistols soon, I want to get one asap. What steps do I need to take to get my transport permit? Is this a once a year thing,or how often do you have to renew these things?

Where did you want to transport it and for what purpose? If it involves a former spouse and gratuitous amounts of alcohol, I have some bad news for you.

phone alberta firearms officer .1 800 731 400 press the right buttons till you ge to applying for an ATT , it will connect you to alberta CFO . ask for a long term provincial ATT .
they will ask for proof of a range membership which you can fax to them .
you can ask them to email the ATT to you . they did that for me twice now
you only need to reapply when your licence expires or if you change place of residence. Alberts CFO been prety good .

Excellent, thanks for the info. I'll get on it as soon as teh guns arrive.

Why not get on it now before the guns arrive... ;)

NAA.

What's an LTATT?Never heard of that before. How do I get an ATT before the guns get here?Don't I need the serial number or registration or something?

LTATT is a Long term authorization to transport. The CFO won't complete the transfer with out one. Because you would be getting it for target shooting. To take it to your target shooting range you would need an ATT.

If you bought the pistols over the web.... ie: a site sponsor..... they will mail the ATT to you automaticly (by ATT I mean LTATT) at least thats what happens when I order a gun from a web site... generally the ATT gets here well before the pistols do. In my experiance at least, I can't speak for anthing outside of SK tho......

Okay,I think I understand how this works. One more thing-the guns are coming from CanAm, and I assume they must have a temporary ATT attached to get them to me? If so,this will only allow for the guns to get to my house and then be expired? I'll call the CFO today and try to get everything in order. Thanks for the heads up on applying for all of western canada.

An STATT will be issued at the time of transfer to get the gun to your house.

The guns arrived today, and I got them home! The CFO office was closed today, apparentley to serve me better, but I'll call again tommorow and try to do what yuo guys suggested and get the a permit for all Alberta ranges,24-7.
