Hello,

I'm a very new shooter and looking to get into 3 gun competition. Currently I am waiting for my RPAL approval. I've shot a few AR's and several handguns of different calibers. I like to think i'm an adaqute shooter, however i'm not too sure who to talk to about registering for a match and what I would need to do for that. Obviously I will need to have primary, handgun, and shotgun to begin with. I'm in Calgary and really looking for guidance to begin somewhere (IDPA, IPSC, etc..) If this is a ridiculous question to be asking, i'l dig further and see what I can find. Thanks for any information!

ODPL, which is a small subdivision of IDPA also has the occasional three gun (i think two per year), but that's only in SW Ontario.

You'll also have to become a member of IDPA or IPSC (in the case of IPSC, you'll probably do it when completing the BB).

IPSC matches are common here in AB. TSS has Monday night for IPSC guys and Wednesday for tactical guys. IDPA is played in Olds - someone will chime in soon for details.

Not much for 3gun. Some held in Edmonton but I hear it's almost dead. True anyone?

First step is to attend a Black Badge course IMO. Any questions about you being qualified to do really anything with a firearm after that can be answered with a "ya I got my BB".

I'm really trying to get into 3gun right now so I cantreally answer any equipment or rig questions.

Good luck.

Err that's the TSE (top of the page). Come out on a Monday and say hi and introduce yourself. The local BB instructor is a regular. BB classes held monthly inOlds as well.

If anything come out and check out some the equipment TSE has. Buy a gun from TSE! They treat me pretty good there.

3 gun match

Well, they are IPSC style event but they are not IPSC qualifier matches. As far as I know, only pistol is used in IPSC qualifier matches.

In 2009, there will be two 3 gun matches in Lethbridge - weekend of May 29, 30, 31 and Aug 21, 22, 23. Note May 29 and Aug 21 is usually for juniors. They shoot pistol, shotgun and rifle (semi auto or target rifle). They usually put some targets at the 400 yards.

In Medicine Hat, the 3 gun match is on Jun 28 (Sun). There is also a 2 gun match (pistol and rifle this year) on Aug 29 (Sat). Medicine Hat is adding rimfire this year to the 3 gun match and 2 gun matches. I have the details on the Medicine Hat matches. PM me if you want the details.

On the Lethbridge matches, I only have the date info.

ODPL is not affiliated with IDPA.

If you want the best 3-gun you'll have to go to the USA.

sorry but IPSC does have three gun rules and does on occasion run three gun matches. in fact this year at the Canadian Nationals in Halifax they are running a three gun match on the Sunday.
