How to get rid of the infamous CZ/VZ gremlin

I got "the kit" from Wolverine and it didn't make a difference. The gremlin showed up just as before.

what was in the kit? the fella i bot a cz858 from enclosed a kit containing a striker and a sear , no spring . he still had problems and was unhappy and sold it to me fully disclosed .

i have another cz858 with no gremlin after 700 .

The kit was a trigger assembly (trigger, spring and disconnector) and a new striker.

I've shot over 2,000 rounds through my 858 and nothing. Should I be expecting this to show up soon? I have only used non-corossive ammo would this help me out in not getting the gremilin?

Most likely you won't have a problem ever. The gremlin is a function of the striker nose pushing the sear down just a tiny bit too far...it could be as little as 1/100 of an inch. That makes the sear rehook the disconnector and get locked in the down position before the striker nose had a chance to get hooked on the sear.

If you haven't experienced it it in 2000 rounds, it's safe to say that the parts are fitted together in such a way that they don't facilitated that malfunction.

Anyone have detailed pics of the US plate mod and measurements thereof? Should be simple for me to machine up a and weld one if the gremlin ever appears. Maybe 1500 rounds through my VZ58S - no gremlin yet though...

I was just going to post if anyone had found a solution to the gremlin as the faq is really vague as to what the problem really could be.

I was going to send the rifle back to marstar, but he told me on the phone to make sure that the pins where in tight etc and if that didn't work send it back.
I had just about given up on it, if its not reliable it makes it incredibly hard for me to justify bringing it to the range.. Now I read this thread and it looks very promising, I'll have to give it a go for sure. I'll let you know how it works out as i defenitley have the gremlin and found it within the first 10-20 rounds of the guns break in...

New Bolt from czechpoint

All,
I got one of those new tabbed bolts from czechpoint this am. The finish sucks!!! Will be going to the range one day next week and will post a range report.

I have fired about 400 rounds and only had this problem once??Should i be expecting this to happen more after brake in?If so what is the easiest and most reliable way to solve this? Thanks

The critical dimension is that it extends the bump to 25mm (actually you have from about 22mm to about 27mm so I guess it's not that dritical) from the rear of bottom section of carrier, the rest is fitting it to the carrier. I have a sheet of .010" 4130 I use. I rough cut them 12mm at the top(when I refer to top I mean as it will be once installed in rifle)22mm at the bottom and 10mm high. I then weld them to carrier, and grind until bottom is even with the bottom of carrier, and round the front corner a bit. I then heat treat them to about 40 rockwell with a torch. Heat until tab turns orange(there is a distinctive change from red to orange)then immediately quench in water or oil(oil works better but is more of a fire hazard)then heat until blue gray and let cool naturally this should give you around 40 rc and will be plenty hard.

i ordered a 858 tac 2 and now im not so sure, the more i read the more i see that yhere are so many people that say their 858 jams or ftf is it a total piece of cr@p or what im starting to regret ordering it i wonder what the ratio is of 858s that function reliably to the ones that dont is it that its only people who are experiencing problems that are posting?

Dan,
Don't worry. The rifles are wonderful. I don't think you'll regret it. Wait until you try it out before you have second thoughts. There are very few with the gremlin from what I've read.

Dan,
I also went through several crates of ammo, and I personally experienced the gremlin once. However, a friend of mine does experience the problem with the same riffle about every 2nd or 3rd round. If you look at this video, it shows the gremlin, but you will notice that it is caused by the way the trigger is held after the round is fired. I picked up a tab bolt carrier on one of my trips to the US, with the tabbed bolt carrier, I can't replicate the issue as described in the video. Even without the tabbed bolt carrier, I am sure you will have lots of fun with this riffle. Enjoy and welcome to the club.
