i have 2 remington 700's one in .270 and one in .308 i was wondering what the cheapest and best ways to get the most accuracy out of one or the other or both without dropping a grand into them

Have them properly bedded and handload quality ammo.

Other then that, think match barrel...

Or sell it and get a SAVAGE :)

PS see my website for info on tuning and getting the most of your factory rifle.

Have your lugs (bolt lugs) lapped properly (competent gunsmith). Then have the same expert turn your M700 trigger down to whatever weight works for you and your game. I like my 3 lb triggers for hunting and Precision Rifle matches with the ORA & DCRA NSCC. Like Mysticplayer said, "Bed the rifle and handload with match bullets". Free float (big debate here, but my 2 cents worth) your barrel channel. Finally ensure all your screws (bedding, base, rings) are snugged up before sighting in otherwise you may end up wasting lots of good ammo. Been there, done that!

Gosh Jerry, after having your ass whooped by Remingtons at the Farky, I figure you would have better advice than that, or does misery love company? :D :stirthepot2:

w:h:

Your serve HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Oh the farky had nothing to do with the rifle.

If the shooter can't drive, DON'T BLAME THE GEAR.

Issues seem to be resolved (mostly a bullet problem which added to my doping woes).

1/4 min is 1/4 min.

Shooter missing a wind changes..

Well, you know.

Looks at the plaque and scores from previous Farky's,

It has done well for me.

Put a box of Federal GM 168 or 175gr. BTHp's throught them both. See how they perform. If you can't get a group less than one MOA with this ammo, bring them to a smith. Glass bedding and a trigger job will usually get to going without too much of an expense.

Once they shoot, use match ammo. I find that the two GM .308 rounds Federal makes are very accurate, they will push your shooting skills to the edge.

I have a Remington 700 sps varmint in 223 and I put decent glass on it, had it bedded by a good smith and also had the trigger pull reduced and my groups are now pretty good, I just need to practice more, all 5 shots are in the same area now at least and not 3 or 4 in one spot and then some rogue bullet :)

learning good trigger control helped me, the shooter quite a bit too, smooth pulls instead of jerking.

I also reload.

the bedding and trigger helped immensely, I was shocked.

Reloading was probably my single biggest improvement in accuracy for my Rem700P.

At least until I shoot the barrel out and upgrade it ;)
