How to install the weaver bases?

The extension base is probably not necessary but might be an advantage if you are mounting a scope with a longer tube on a short action. It certainly does no harm.
The only disadvantage to the aluminum bases is that the screws tend to distort the base so that the base bottoms out in the middle and there is no support at the sides of the base. This allows the base to rock. The best preventative for this is to use epoxy beneath the base. Steel bases (available from Weaver, Warne, or Leupold) are better in this regard but are not always perfect either. Regards, Bill
