I got a PAL rated crosman phantom and I re sealed it. I let it sit before I fire, but it diesels when I fire.

I lightly greased the spring and piston with moly. ( just made it look wet )
The seal I put a dab of chamber oil and rubbed it around the seal. It dieseled. So I since took it apart and removed the excess and tried again. Did it again.

1098, 1008, 750 FPS. Its 22 cal FYI using 14.3grn.

I'm pretty sure the seal is scraping the grease off. Every time I check the seal doesn't look like any damage.

But how does one prevent this from happening?

Only use silicone grease made for springers. No petroleum products or this will happen.

New ones will do this for the first 8 shots or so. "oil or lube from the factory". Don't worry about it. That small amount wont hurt a thing.

You did the right thing. Moly on the spring/guides, silicone on the seals. It will diesel regardless for the first couple shots.

You have more chance of damaging something taking it apart multiple times than you do having it diesel for a couple shots after lubing.

Well I put about 150 thru it. But I upgraded the spring to the full power. I lubed it, but guess I over did it. I cleaned it again, chamber and all and just put oil around the seal...

I didnt matter even if I allow sit over night. Shoot it again it would diesel. First 2 shots be over 1000 FPS and only suppose to be max 800.

*edit just* shot 826 FPS...

Not all moly or silicone is created equal when it comes to springers. Most silicone and moly lubes contain petroleum and should never be used in springers. Moly 60 contains no petroleum and is what I've used for 15+ years with excellent results and no problems. Silicone grease sold specifically for AG applications or Food Safe Silicone grease contains no pretoleum.

Here is the proof. I pulled it apart this winter to clean. This is a picture of the guts out of my optimus. As you can see there is NO damage after 500 rounds of Dieseling. The new seals are neoprene not like the crap seals they use to use. You can hammer the crap out of these. They are a lot more heat, pressure, & oil resistant.

Dieseling went away after I cleaned it again.

Now the trigger wont work.. I think it has to do with that silly adjustment.

WHAT DID I SAY?!?!?!?! :)

The dieseling would have went away on its own. After I do a full disassemble, lube, and clean, it sometimes takes a few dozen shots to settle down. Don't worry about it.

Dieseling is hard on the spring and won't do anything good for accuracy. Don't lube the tube with anything other than silicone chamber lube. If you really want to lube the piston use a dry moly film lube.

Take care and play safe! PAL airguns can be dangerous...

krytox lube #205 being used now days
tried myself krytox (DuPont product) #226 on HW77, with pretty good results and no occasional dieseling
