This isn't the case. They only have to if they want 'convenient' hunting within 1/2 hour. For pretty much every person in Ontario, there's large blocks of hunting within about an hour. Ottawa, there's lots of crown land up that way. Toronto, there's a huge hunk of crown land within 1-1.5 hours drive north up haliburtion/huntsville area. West of Toronto there's 5000 acres of wetlands and bush that's absolutely overrun with wildlife near Goderich. GRCA near Guelph and Cambridge have a dozen spots you can hunt small game like rabbits and squirrels. And there's lots of nooks and crannies here and there scattered across the province.I find it unfortunate for Ontario/Quebec hunters to have to lease their own hunting land.
It's not easy in many parts of Ontario to find a spot where you can put up a treestand and sit there 3 nights a week - that's true. But if you're looking to hunt, there's lots of places you can get to and back same day and still have a great day hunting.
