How to keep raccoons away from my bait??

I've got a trail cam set up and im hoping to catch some coyotes on it.
But whenever I put bait out..all i get is raccoons!!
I know they're are coyotes around...but I have doubts about catching them on cam if the coons eat all my bait!

Anyone know any methods of keeping raccoons away?
 
Hang the bait 4 feet of the ground from a branch. Yotes will be able to reach it but coons shouldn't provided they can climb up the tree and then down the hanging implement. What are you using for bait.
 
Keep it two feet off the ground? Drive spikes threw all the legs and underneith so the coons can't climb up it? but a yote will be able to jump up on top? Just a thought.


Pretty hard to keep coons away from food though, they will find a way.
 
We use an old pillow case hung from a tree ...about 3 feet off the ground...keeps the other critters out, but the yotes have no problem tearing it down. We hang it with a thick sewing yarn, strong enough to handle the weight, but it will break when a dog pulls on it.

Shoot 1... Impale it on a stick near the bait to serve as an example to the rest?...
 
Coyote is one of the hardest animals to get on a trail cam. They are smart and it is next to impossable to hide a camera from them. If the see it they will avoide it. I have had best luck with setting 2 or 3 cameras at a location. They become fixed on one and sometimes do not see the others. One of the best lures is just plain old human urine. If you can find a good rotton stump wet it down every time you go by it. You will be amazed at the animals that come to check it out.

If you have concerns about raccoons eating all of your bait, then you're not using enough bait. Load the place up with more than any small armada of raccoons could expect to eat in a year. The coyotes will come.
 
Technically the season for hunting raccoons in Ontario runs from Oct. 15 to Jan. 15 of the next year. If you are the land owner & can prove they are causing damage you could get away with shooting them. Just suspend the bait out of their reach from a limb.
