If your hair falls out, you have been in the sun too long. I would also be worried about cancer! JK, I know nothing about preparing hide.lol

LOL-

Yeah yomomma , i figured, all of the above really- i just wonder how soon you could know if it was a failure or not!
did the brain deal last time, goin to kero an bi carb the next few full hides for my huts beds, some comfort under the 'swag' or bed rolls etc..
brain ones cool- looks tanned LOL

You should know by the time it comes out of the solution or you have washed it in preparation for drying.
The hair will be falling off in large clumps ...that is if smell hasnt told you already.
Then again, I am going from what a couple of old trapper have suggested to me in the past.

alot of different ways to 'skin the cat' an alot of different methods to "tan" or "preserve" a hide, alot of different meanings in the words 'tan a hide' aswell, also in one example the end product Hide, can have fur on it still, an not be sold as 'leather', Old trapper suggestions, suggests to me He was makin a living off it and would most likely be tanning hair off for leather products? aka buckskin

im making floor rugs an stuff, hair on, an mostly just preserving the hide , depends which internet site you read............... but if it worked 100year ago for all the old folk... im into it.
