how to mount a bipod on Rem. 597?

I just picked up a bipod for my Rem. 597 (with gray synthetic stock) and I was wondering what I need to mount it. Will any swivel stud work? so I just drill the stock and screw it in?? any tips?

The screw in type of stud may work for a while, but I found they strip out due to the soft material. I know that the Savage synthetic stocks have a stud and nut to hold them in place. the nut is recessed into the stock and stud put in place. Even some wood stocks will loosen if they are knocked around while the bipod is on.
