How to pick replacement sights for a Glock?

I've read lots of opinions online about which sight is better then another, which one this guy likes over that one, but almost no one says WHY?

What do you look for in a sight set? all black vs 1 dot, vs 3 dot, vs all 1 colour or 2? tritium vs fiber optic?

Is this just a personal preference thing or is there some factors to consider?

New to hangunning, have glass on most of my rifles, fiber optic on most of my shotguns and just got some fire-sights for my daughters little 1 shot .22 reason, easier for her to line up and shoot...did I just answer my own question?

There are some facts regarding sights but they are more along the lines of things like fibre optic is easier to see, but if you're colour blind it won't be, night sights are visible in the dark, etc.

For the most part, it is personal preference. I, myself, prefer a fully blacked out rear sight and some form of dot (white dot, Tritium, fibre optic) up front. Others may prefer 3 dots, etc.

If you investigate enough, there is likely some qualitative data about how fast the human eye can acquire certain shapes/colours etc but I'm fairly confident the difference will be negligible and how your eyes work is much more important.
 
Tritium so you can see them in the dark, is something I consider a must. Otherwise it's personal preference. I like the XS big dot, If find it very easy to line up quickly, and I can get good combat accuracy with them. Largely it comes down to what brand you trust, which puts out a sight that you shoot well with. For a competition gun which would only be shoot in good light, fibre optic would be fine. A lot of target shooters like just black sights, I can't use those worth spit.
 
Its all preference. Myself I like Trijicon night sights. Tried tested and true. I like 3 dot combat sights and they are very durable. During the day you have the white dots and at night they glow bright. Perfect combination. I have all green on my Glock 17 and yellow rear and green front on my Glock 20


TruGlo TFO's are really nice as well and Meprolight is a trusted brand as well.

Night sights, so if you are shooting paper, IDPA, IPSC etc, where is the need? Do they glow in the day like fibre optics do?

Tritium sights do not glow like FO sights would. FO sights gather ambient light and project it to the ends of the FO tube(a principle called total internal reflection is used, like fiber optic cable). Tritium sights contain H3 a hydrogen isotope that is used to create a green(or other coloured) glow for about 10 years without the need for ambient light or batteries.

Tritium sights are not necessary for competition shooting as most disciplines do not engage in night shooting events.

on my gen 2 glock 17 it came with the original night sights made by meprolight (I think?)

I ordered a set of warren-sevigny competition sights because I like the black rear with fiber front. Should be getting them tonight, if I do ill post some pictures for u to see.

If u compete in a action shooting sport (I.e. Ipsc, idpa etc) I would suggest these,
 
We install Truglo Glock sights, F/O(Fiber optic) for daytime, TFO(Tritium fiber optic) for both uses. Great visibility, easy to use. check them out HERE
