hey everyone
i have a restricted 15 inch barreled cz 858
i was just wondering how i could get it to an 18.5 inch barrel so it could be non restricted. any ideas?
thanks
rob

wouldnt bother until the registry is gone..... the RCMP has the 858 on the "wanted" list for restriction

They can try, won't happen. Also that is a stupid reason not to do something. I might as well not buy any handguns cuz they're going to be banned eventually....

how much would it roughly cost to have a gun smith intsall the proper barrel??

With it being press-fit, I'd figure atleast as much as the barrel costs (I'd guess ~$350) if not more... Or about the same price as the 18.5" rifle would cost to buy.

Not to mention, I can't ever recall seeing any 858/VZ58 barrels for sale by themselves. That's both EE & vendors...

* buy an 18.5" 858 & be done with it.

;)

3 to $500 depending on what you want. I have a medium 12" barrel that was a 15" skinny barrel and it costed me a little over $300. The same company that did mine also has custom heavy barrels that require custom gas block and piston for $500. The company I went to was Dlask.

Rebarrel of my vz58 was quoted around $400-500 by dlask and bits of pieces
Bits of pieces never done one before but said they could.

Where can I find out about this? Is there a thread on it?

so basically get a new cz?
since its going to stay restricted is it cheaper to have the barrel cut down?

To cut down the barrel on an already restricted VZ58 would be easy in theory since the gunsmith wouldn't even need to take it off. That being said, I would do some research to see if that will affect the reliability of the gas system.

I'm no expert on the VZ58 but I would imagine that the dynamics of the gas system would be affected somewhat, since you're changing the blow back pressures.

I think there is some formula for the barrel length to gas system length ratio...

I noticed that the factory short VZ58s have a much shorter gas assembly.

The 11.75" CSA VZ's have the same length gas system as the restricted and non-restricted VZ's.

Sell the restricted one on the EE and buy a non-restricted 858. You might even be able to do a trade for a NR one.

Right now you have a restricted $700 gun... rebarrelling it will cost you $300+ and get you a non-restricted $700 gun...
