Is there any way to register a gun, say one you buy from a person, that hasn't been registered yet? LIke say a gun someone had stored away for a few years kinda thing. Can this be done?

I would be interested in this too, my friend has some older rifles that were hidden in his basement.

sure just call the cfc and they will give you the closests verifiers number, arrange to meet with them get the FRT number for the gun (s) and register them online. Only problem is when you try to register a prohib that you are not classed for.

They want to know where you got it from. Seing is pistols have been registered for 70 years, there may be a problem........

A year-or-so back some pistols were "discovered", they had appearantly last seen the light of day in about 1970; however they were packed with their original green registration slips, so all that was needed was for them to be re-registered and verified. A small hassle, but I understand all is happy now.

Would they believe the standard: I was going through my dead uncle's stuff, and found it? Or would they actually look into weather an uncle of mine has actually died or not?

Probably.

They will ask where the gun came from. I had an argument with them about this once as the seller to me did not want to give his information. He said that he'd toss it in a lake if he had to give his name. I asked them which they would rather - a gun registered in thier system or one in the shallow part of a lake that some kid might find? They said it was OK for him to remain anonymous.

If the guns are restricted, you might want to get a dealer involved to transport them and store them until they are registered. He;ll be able to explian them better if they are found at his place while in limbo rather than your place.

If they are prohibited, deactivation or destruction is your only option. :(

I am a verifier, and also have recently registered a firearm that was previously unregistered....I had the firearm verified, (pre my being a verifier)and then simply submitted the form online....I put acquired from a friend as where it came from (it was non-restricted). It took slightly longer to issue the registration, but it did come, and no problems or questions.

I've had a P38 registered that same was. It actually was found in a basement by a widow and she sold me the gun. The CFC just wanted to talk to her and run the serial numbers along with the mfg code. Since it was not previously registered (war trophy) they proceeded with the registration. It just takes a little longer to get done.

I'am a verifier also, of all the firearms that I have verified, not one has been previosly registered. As of yet I am not aware of anyone having trouble registering them. But these were all rifles also. When registering online, and they ask were the firearm was obtained, all you have to say is the firearm was inherited or you forgot to register it.

Pistol's is a different story? Or not? I would imagine they could just say NO, and come to you house and confiscate the gun. Especially if it was a 12.6.

A 12(6) needs a licence holder for it. If it was something you really wanted have a gunsmith who is 12(6) licenced register it for you then change the barrel. Once it's a restricted length you can "buy it" from the gunsmith or whoever and register it in your name.

With a chance for the Liberals to get into power and introduce a ban why would you want to go out and register the darn thing anyway? Inquiring minds have to know these things.
