How to remove backwards primer

A word of caution on "deactivating" primers.

Most primers on the market today are very resistant to contamination that may kill them. A couple of years ago I tested this by placing 10 Federal large rifle primers in a zip-lock bag and gave them a good shot of WD-40. 3 days later I took them out and rolled them on a towel before loading them in 30-06 cases. I then shot these primer-only cases in one of my rifles and all 10 popped.

The point I am trying to make is don't assume a drop of oil or water will render a primer "safe".

I just deprimed 100 LIVE primed cases last night and I still have all my fingers and other important appendages.

No Oil, No Water, No VooDoo magic to "deactivate"....I even put them back in a primer box that WASN'T labeled the same as the primers that went into it. I like to live on the wild side.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Why not just toss the case, and save the possible headache?

What possible headache are you talking about?
Everytime this subject comes up, which is often, many experienced reloaders will all say they have pushed out oodles of live primers and never had one go off and the primers could be reused.
Then the ones who seem to know nothing about the subject, all chime in with some "safe" way to do it.
One wonders why people in the know ever bother telling the uninformed how to things, because they are seldom listened to.

Jeeze! Do we have to have a special font so you guys can recognize humour?
The "fast-hard" was obviously meant to be amusing.

I've also deprimed 100's of live primers, and usually reused the primers too.

I agree Bruce. Even if the primer does pop, what do they think is going to happen? The only time I had primers go off unintentionally was when I was seating them with the hammer and rod technique with a Lee Loader, and even then you have to get pretty wild before they go. When they do go, you hear a bang and get a little smoke, and your fingers if close to the case mouth get an interesting sensation. You giggle a bit, advise others in the house that its no biggie, giggle a bit more, then decap it and try again. When I started loading my folks used to hate that . . . tap, tap, tap, BANG! My Mom developed a twitch, but I never did.

Just run it through the decapping/sizing die as quick and hard as you can!!!!!

Be sure and video it for youtube, as well. Have about a dozen freshly emptied bottles of your favorite brand of beer sitting on the desk, say "Hey Bubba, watch this!" And let'er rip.

And if you thought the poster of this comment was being genuine, you seriously need to re-evaluate how seriously you take advice off teh interweb.
