How to remove Norc M14 Flash Sup?

Hey guys, I need to get the damned thing off. I think I remember read'n a thread way back and someone said they were welded. I just got a new stock and really want to mount the rifle in it myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there's a sticky on this - basically, you need to undo and remove the setscrew in the front of the front sight, then undo the castle nut, and break the welds except i have described it backwards- break the welds first- sometimes you get really lucky and the welds are minimal or none at all- but for mounting a new stock you don't need to take the flash hider/front sight off- unless you don't like the looks of the thing or want to mount a vortex or something

Take a good look at the FH, you should see two spot weld that hold the FH to the barrel.
You need to drill them off and loosen the castle nut, I used a piece of hardwood and a hammer to take it off. Mine required alot of drilling/grinding and is now badly butchered.

Be careful not to drill into the barrel.

Dumb question the second...once I have the damned thing off, can I just screw it back into place or will it have to be welded to be secured properly again?

The castle nut is made to secure it in place, just screw it tight and put the set screw back in its place. You might want to look at this for more info.

BTW castle nut plier are a must, brownell sell them and will ship to canada. Some says they are too soft compared to USGI but I am pleased with mine.

All I did was loosen up the castle nut and give the FH a small tap. Came right off!! Very easy to do!

Simon you are the man! Dude, if you ever need a liver or something just let me know That has to be the best set of instructions I have ever seen...we seriously need to make this a permanent sticky for all the Norc M14 people out there! Thanks brother!
