How to remove pistol Grip cap from Post 64 Model 88 Winchester

You really do not have to remove it to refinish the stock unless your going to be sanding the entire stock first. If your just going to apply some sort of stripper then use #0000 steel wool you can leave it in place and you will not damage it with the stripper or the steel wool. I can not remember if these grip caps are plastic or metal, if metal the stripper on second thought could soften the plastic. So keep it off it the best you can.

Slide under the bezel with something thin like a feeler blade and work it loose. It is glued in place. Once removed there is an obvious screw to remove the cap. When finished glue it back on with RTV sealant (silicone gasket material).

Warm it up with a heat gun first to soften the adhesive and it will lift right off. You can also use an x-acto blade to get under the bezel.
