ok guys i have tried , and for the life of me i cnt figure out how to remove the stock, butstock, and swap it for the six position collapseable one. i have looked here, and on afrcom, i can only find how to install the new one, nothing about removing the stock butstock. i am working with a bushmaster xm15.... thanks alot in advance. pictures are even better.....:D;)

A2 > Carbine Stock

On a Colt the A2 stock is removed by unscrewing the butt cap (top) screw and sliding the stock off the receiver extension.

To install a carbine type collapsible stock you need to replace the A2 / rifle receiver extension with a carbine extension. The carbine buffer and spring are also different.

Be careful with the buffer retainer & spring and the takedown pin detent and spring when changing the receiver extension.

Sometimes getting the Buttstock screw off of the original A2 Stock (so you can pull the stock off the A2 Extension tube) can be a real struggle. They are often installed with thread lock so getting them to break loose can be a problem... usually chews up the slot in the screw... at times we've ended up drilling them out as nothing else would work.

Take your time...

ok i got it down to the long tube, but cant get that tube out, the threaded one. i took off the screw, and the stock, buffer spring. the long threaded tube is now the only thing left. is there a tool to break it loose? i even put it in a vise, but i dont want to bend it, and it keeps slipping. this is where i turned around, and went back to the stock , stock. ahhh what do i do now??

Does it have a lock ring? if not a strap wrench and a lower reciever block in a vice... they are not the easiest thing to pull off.. as has been said the right tools and take your time...

The end of the tube should have a couple of flats so that you can use a wrench to spin it off. Helps if you have the lower in the vise to hold things secure. Just be careful since it's the buffer tube that holds the buffer catch pin thingy in place. If you don't keep your finger over it it'll be launched into the nether regions of space as you turn the buffer tube out.

You also need a special wrench to tighten the locking nut of a collapsible stock.

my RRA buffer tube was thread locked to the lower... yours might be also.. BE CAREFUL when applying extra muscle to the buffer tube. thoroughly inspect the threads for any sign of thread lock material that may have seeped along the threads.

propane torch for 30 seconds quickly around the threads should break loose any loctite, corosion, oil/gunk-lock. don't let any part get too hot and let it cool for 10-20 seconds before you try to turn the extention also if you can clamp the lowe in a vice with soft jaws (or lots of electrical/gun/duct tape)on the part where the pistol grip screws into. That should give you a firm holding point with out torquing and/or crushing your lower.
once you get the extention off hand tighten the locking ring onto the carbine extention with castlations to the rear until it stops. place the backplate or sling plate onto the extention. hand tighten the extention onto the reciver untill it just begins to cover the buffer retainer hole. back off the extention place the retainer with spring into the hole and tighten the extention 1-2 turns so the retainer can function and the stock guide is on the bottom. you will need a pin spanner or a stong punch to tighten the locking ring onto the extention if you can torque to 15 ft-lbs but no more tan 25 ft-lbs. finnaly if presentstake the ring to the buffer to the extention with a center punch in the small semi - castelations.
now attach butt in one of 6 poss and release the empti brasse back into it's natural habitate, the range. PM me for pics if you'd like, I got a few hundred ar-15 (C-7's) in various states of dis-assembly

I second this, first time I took the tube off I was unscrewing it and not paying attention and the buffer stop pin shot out and flew across my room! carpet was a dark color, there was crap everywhere, I'm amazed I found it.
