How to remove trigger lock?

I was given a couple of the father-in-laws old rifles; one has a trigger lock on it, and the key cannot be found.

How do I remove the stupid trigger lock!?

locksmith (or gunsmith) would be the best/safe way to go. You could probably try to drill it out but make sure you have a good bit.

I've used a hand drill to bore out the lock cylinder. Drill press would probably work better.

watch the youtube video in post # 42 of that thread. I tried it and it took me about 15 seconds to figure it out and get one of my locks off

Yup, search on youtube. Or dare I say it, search on GunNutz, there are at least a dozen threads.
Precision screwdrivers are good.

If the trigger lock is on tight the easiest way without marking the gun is to drill it out.

I followed the consensus opinion and drilled it out. It took only about 5 mins.

I did not watch the video, but its a doddle with a very small flat screw driver. Especially if you already have a lock that is open to figure out where to put pressure. Like I said, a doddle.

Had the same thing happen with a Weatherby Mk V that belonged to a buddy.
I wish I had video of me firing up a 7" Makita side grinder and taking the aluminum cap off the offside. (at which point they fall apart)

I think my buddy still has nightmares about that one.

A paper clip. push in on the side of the teeth to release the lock. My 9 year old nephew can show you how its done.

if they re master trigger locks, they only come keyed to 4 different keys.mine are all keyed the same but a friend has 3 of the 4 different keys and i have the other.

There are hundreds of key combinations. You can order as many locks as desired, in any amount. I have a locksmith in the family who has ordered me 30 locks all keyed alike. Just tell them what key number you have and how many you would like?

There are some videos on youtube of 8 year old kids removing trigger locks in less than a minute.Something to think about if you rely on rigger locks to keep your kids away from your guns.

You're right on that one Gatehouse!!...Not very "criminal proof" are they ??....Cost me 10 FRIGGEN bucks cause I wouldn't believe for one second that you could use a butterknife and slide it in between the halves...give it a twist or a hard smack with your hand...and it was OFF!!

If the trigger lock is installed properly you won't find all these quick fixes so easy... you will mark up your trigger guard trying them...
