How to renew a PAL ?

I understand from reading about the POL renewal that due to the general registration amnesty, that it is OK to be expired back as far as 2004, as long as the re-registration is done before may 2007 ?

The amnesty protects against prosecution. That's it. Nothing more. Registered firearms owned by an individual with an expired PA/OL MAY be taken into custody pending issue of a new licence. This is not prosecution, so the amnesty doesn't help. It is illegal to own firearms without a valid licence. People have been receiving letters telling them to dispose of their guns, because their licence has expired. If a licence - PAL or POL valid for 12(x) expires, it cannot be renewed with 12(x) priviledges, and the 12(x) guns cannot be retained.
An expired POL cannot be renewed. A POL can be renewed if the current one has not expired. An expired POL can be replaced with a PAL. It is necessary to have passed the written and practical exams for the CFSC to apply for a PAL. CRFSC for a restricted endorsed PAL.
Stevey - I have never heard of a 2 yr PAL. If you passed the CFSC, you will have received a copy of the Course Report. Did you send a copy in with your PAL application? If so, it will be on file. The CFC and your CFO will also have received copies of the Course Report.

Tiriaq- Well have you ever heard of one that doesnt expire on your birthday? If the CFSC is the course to obtain your PAL then yes i passed it. I havent sent the application because im unsure of which form to send, im waiting for a concrete answer from the people here as to what is going on. But I believe I still have that paper.

Thanks Steve

"Use this form (CAFC 979) to renew a POL or PAL that has not yet expired. If you do not have a licence, your licence has expired or you are replacing an expiring FAC use form CAFC 921." ----- CFC

921 is the application for a PAL not the Renewal.

Different form doesnt = redoing the course...
I guess if we're splitting hairs... :runaway: :runaway: :runaway: :runaway: :):):)

For the amount of time it takes, there was no excuse, but
I was just lazy at the time... Im not the only registerd gun owner in the house so it wasnt an issue for me legally...

Darryl, when did I ever say you have to retake the course. All I ever said is that you can't just send in the renewal. Am I right or wrong? Next time look it up yourself or keep your trap shut.

I have to check my copy of the form showing I passed the PAL course, but don't you have a limited time period, say one year, to apply for the PAL?

If that's the case, you have to pass the course again to support a new application. Passing the course also means you can do a challenge, i.e. just write and pass the written and practical examinations.

Mauser Mike- If you were refering to me, yes it is a minors licence. At what age are you not considered a minor? I know im allowed to hunt with a rifle with my dad as of right now but I may have more options now? I dont know im just plain confused! All i know is i took the course 2 years ago, I passed I aquired my hunters saftey card and a minors PAL. I have now replaced the hunter safety card with the wildlife card and my PAL has expired {dec 10th 2006}. Sorry if im being dumb but apperently I get confused easy lol.

I thought I was pretty clear and consise... Different form doesnt = redoing the course... You didnt say it, I did...

Sorry numbnutts, I guess you missed the smiley faces about splitting hairs...
Keep my trap shut? Easy noob, you obviously dont know me very well...

Let it go bud, no need to create an issue out of nothing... (Unless thats what your here to do, and than its a different story all together)

Once a person has successfully completed the CFSC, that's it. It does not normally have to be taken again. If a licence has been forfeit, that's a different story.
Steve - Go to www.cfc.gc.ca. In the FAQ section it explains how you get a PAL after you have had a Minor's Licence. (A Minor's Licence isn't a PAL.) You use form CAFC 921 for your application. You have already passed the CFSC to get your Minor's Licence, so you don't have to do that again. You have to be 18 to apply for a PAL.

I agree 100% with Tiriaq; the important thing is to submit an application. The longer you wait, the more likely you are to have problems.

I enjoy these forums, and enjoy to trying to help others. What I do not appreciate is those that wear their hearts on their sleeves and are incapable of conducting a civil discussion. There are no awed audiences to impress here, please take your pissing contests elsewhere!

OK I will do that. My question is whether its a minors licence or not, why did it run out so fast and for no reason? Wouldnt it still have a 5 year term? Im still slightly confused but ill go get the form and send it out anyways lol.

Thanks! Steve

The only difference i see with the forms to renew a pal or apply for a pal is that the renewal is simpler in that you don't need to get new references. If your still not sure which to use give the cfc a phone call. The faster you do it the faster you'll have a license in hand.
