How to secure action bar on Mossberg 500 forearm....staked to slide tube?

Trying to restore an old Mossy 500 for my brother-in-law (it was his grandfather's) and the action arm is loose. I got the wood grip off the slide tube to see there was nothing securing the action arm to the slide tube; I think they're supposed to be staked, but this one sure isn't.

Is there any way I can do this myself, or is it a gunsmith job? Where would I even find an appropriate-sized pin?

Is the action arm broken off? You may need to order a new assembly.

The old wood forends were friction fit on a tube and held tight by a ring at the end. They werent staked. The new versions are and they are prone to breaking

Not this sloppy. The action arm is separated from the slide tube, because the pin in the end is no longer there.

How old are we talking about, the very early mossbergs , 60's , only had a single action bar , they were wielded and had a reputation for separating.
The dual action bar ones are held in place by a roll pin .

Most single action mossbergs were the model 400 . On with the repair yes there is movement up and down even when the retaining pin is in place . Now for the repair I usually drill out the hole in the arm and on the action sleeve where the arm sits image it a 6-48 thread which is a weaver base screw put the arm in the slot on te sleeve install screw grind the head off better than new . Now your fix you will not have a 6-48 tap so just use a no 6 -40 common thread and it will work just as well

This is an early mossberg with a late-model pump tube fitted to replace the earlier-style welded forend.

My 1970's 500ATP is solid AF I guess that was before the race to the bottom....lol...
