Hi guys , I have never sold a Firearm before and I am wondering how to do it properly . Its a Restricted Firearm . where would I post it for sale ?. If some one can help that would be great .

If you haven't already, request access to the Equipment Exchange. From there, start a thread in the appropriate section, such as Pistols.

It makes things much easier if you include the model name in your thread title, and pictures are worth a thousand words. Most people enjoy a few extra details as well, putting the details up front such as age, bore condition, approximate use conditions, etc generally saves a lot of back and forth between prospective buyers. Remember, you're the only one who can post in a thread you created in the EE, everyone else will have to PM you, so make sure your inbox has some available space.

You'll need the buyer's name, address, RPAL number, and it's best to have their phone number or email address. Then call the CFC to initiate a transfer, they will give you a reference number and you need to pass that along to the buyer who will need to contact the CFC to confirm the transfer.

Here's an extra couple of hints for selling:

- You MUST list a price. List whether shipping is included or extra in the ad.

- More information is better than less: Bore condition, mechanical condition, external finish, wood condition/grips, any alterations, wear, damage, modifications etc etc etc

- Pictures: Clear overall pictures as well as pictures of any markings, features, wear/damage etc.

- Other stuff: Standard methods are EMT or Money order. Canada post sells certified money orders, EMT is a secure email based transfer. With a restricted firearm the standard order of business is initiate transfer, receive money/complete transfer, mail gun. Gun should be mailed regular shipping Canada post with signature, insurance at your preference.

- Usually first "I'll take it" gets the gun. If someone offers you more money after you've received an "I'll take it" at your price from another CGN'er, opinion is the right thing is to go with the person who said they'd buy it first at your price.

Could I sell the Firearm Locally to save the trouble of shipping ?

Could I sell the Firearm Locally to save the trouble of shipping ?

Hmm, potentially. Sometimes the CFOs are difficult about giving you an ATT to bring it to the buyer. Usually they railroad you into getting an ATT to the post office to mail it.

Shipping is easy, but if you sell it local, do it at YOUR club. Not your home address.

how am I to know how much shipping is I had one guy he was from this Army base west of where I live and I showed him the gun at the club and he liked it and I told him how much I want for it . its a GSG 1911 with a Conversion kit I bought for it and I got 2 megs and 1,000 rounds of 22L and I am asking 500.00 for everything

Canada post website, you can calculate shipping. Then when its time to ship it, contact the CFO/CFC for a Short Term ATT. From your place to the post office. Don't tell them what it is. Always good to have a signature required.

BUT you will NOT be able to ship that ammo thru Canada post. You will have to go thru Canpar or another place.

Easier? You cut down the potential buyer pool when you don't offer shipping, making it harder to sell your firearm.

Good luck!

Well shipping alone will cost a fortune and then youl have to get insurance for everything

1) Shipping doesn't cost a fortune, normally $15 to most majors.

2) You don't pay for shipping the buyer does.

3) You don't pay for insurance the buyer does, if he/she wants insurance.

Sell it however you want but know that you're limiting yourself if you only sell locally.

P.S. You sound very lazy, lol.

Estimating shipping is easy as 1...2..3.

Measure the package you will be shipping the pistol in (locked gun case and external cardboard/paper wrapping) in either inches or centimeters and round up to the nearest 1/2 inch etc.

Weigh the package on a scale (I use a digital scale rated up to 11 pounds ,but I`m sure a kitchen scale will be close enough)

Go to Canada Post web site and go to "find a rate" ,there you punch in the package dimensions, weight and the postal code of the buyer. It will then give you options on the various shipping rates for regular parcel ,priority etc. and lets you add shipping for any amount.

It`s actually very accurate as I use it all the time ,and am usually spot on when I go to the Post Office.

As mentioned, shipping will not be as much as you might think. But the buyer pays for it and insurance anyway.

Well I don't know about lazy we are dealing with selling a restricted firearm and as a responsible firearms owner I am trying to do the right thing

Lol you make it sound so easy how do you make sure your shipping it to a legit gun owner that is licensed?

With a restricted the CFO has to be contacted by the buyer with a reference # that you will give the buyer. The reference # is specific to the restricted firearm you are going to sell to the buyer. At that point the CFO will approve or disapprove the transfer. You, like any seller need to make sure the buyer has been approved by the CFO before shipping.
