How to sight-in using my new 20 MOA scope base?

My new rifle uses an integral 20 MOA scope rail. I'm having trouble getting my head around how I need to do my initial sight-in. I get it that the rail is canted down 20 to give me more room to elevate beyond ~600yd, but...
OK, I've mounted my scope (6-24x50) and completed my usual manual bore sight (remove bolt, put target in centre of bore, then put reticle on centre of target @25yd). So, when I take it to the range, do I proceed with my usual 25yd zero? Will my first rounds fly high over my target? Will I need to crank down for 20MOA (320 clicks???)? Should I be starting out with a "mechanical zero" with the reticle centered in my FOV, or should I crank it 'down' all the way? Or 'UP'?? Or will it be the same as with my usual 0 MOA bases?

Send help, my head's about to explode...!:bangHead:

If you bore sight it and move cross hairs to that point of aim In theory that's where it should hit. That's what I do and it seems to work. Also to get it on paper (I shoot at 100yd's) I put up 4 targets in a square pattern as even when bore sighted it maybe off the one target. It may also be as much as 2 feet off at times as well so if aiming at the center of the square it could miss the four targets. You need to have some one watch to see where it hits on the back stop.

Just because it is bore sighted doesn't mean that it is any where near true.

The 20 moa angle just gives you more range to move impact up.(cross hairs down.) It all depends a lot on the scope, how high off the bore, and if the base is true to the bore.

Forget the 20 moa rail is even there. Put target up at 100m/yds, look through bore ...adjust positon of rifle so you can see target through bore, steady rifle and adjust sights to the target, fire one shot, now adjust sights to the hole the shot made. That's it your done on the initial set up.

If you want a 200m/yd zero then go up ~2 moa on the elevation turret, fire one shot at target, make final small adjustment of sights. Now zero your windage and elevation turrets. Done.

New 20 MOA base...

OK, thanks a lot for all those tips!
I'll report back just as soon as I get some results.

BTW-- The rifle is a "Ruger Precision, (RPR)" in 6.5CM; the base is integral to the rifle.

Sight in like normal and enjoy your new rifle. The 20 MOA base will just give your scope more adjustment (elevation) room on your turret for shooting to longer range.

The old Savage has still got life in her!

Right. So, in other words, there's no need to do anything special when it comes to mounting the scope on the rail?

BTW-- I just finished doing the old-fashioned 'eye-ball bore sight' with my old work-horse Redfield Revolution (3-9x40) on my Savage 10 precision (zero MOA rail), did a 25yd sight-in, and almost unbelievably, printed a 3/4" cloverleaf at 200 yards!!
Good old Savage! Now I can only hope this new Ruger will shoot as well...
Stay tuned....

Man, that target sure looked tiny at 9 power--and me with no spotting scope!!
I trudged downrange that 200yd not feeling too good, cos I could not notice any holes from the bench. Imagine my disbelief and surprise when I saw those three overlapping holes! It was a fine day!
