I'm having a slight problem with my model 70 featherweight. I've gone through two boxes of shells (Winchester 165gr power point) and about half way through the second box, the bolt got very hard to open after each shot. It's like there is something binding when I try to lift the bolt. The binding is present to a lesser degree when the rifle is dry fired, but exaggerated after a round is fired. At first I thought it might be the ammo, so i tried a few Core-lokts, no difference. What do you think is going on here guys. I hsould add that the rifle shoots like a dream.

Remove the bolt from the rifle and clean the locking lugs and locking lug recesses. Put a very thin film of light grease on the bearing surface of the locking lugs and see if that resolves the problem. If not, examine the lugs to see if one shows a significantly more wear than the other, if so its a gunsmith gig.

If the wear on the locking lugs is more or less even, and the recesses are clean and the problem continues something else is going on, and the rifle should be checked for a properly cut chamber or some other irregularity.

Your cocking cam is galling. It needs greese.
