Hey everyone, newby to reloading here, but not to shooting. Done lotsa shooting but never rolled my own. Looking to start somewhere. Primary weapon of choice is a savage 270win and i have more than enough brass. I have family down in arizona right now who can hit up a cabelas store on the way home to pickup some goodies, so i'm looking for a good "starter kit". Something that i can do all the basics with, and some advice would be much appreciated.

Get a Lee Anniversary kit. It has just about everything you need to start reloading. I believe it comes with a Lee reloading manual. You will also need a die set, case length gauge & trimmer, bullets, powder, & primers. Be sure you know the U.S export rules so you don't get into real trouble with U.S Homeland Security. Reloading tools are exempt from U.S export restrictions, but just about everything else to do with firearms isn't.

I am a beginner myself and I have done quite a bit of research. Today I went to William's Arms in Port Perry to buy a reloading book. I left with the Lyman Reloading Handbook 49th Edition and Modern Reloading Second Edition by Richard Lee. These books came highly recommended and I can see why. The Lyman Handbook is great for a beginner. Even goes over all the different powders and their uses.

I agree with cbabes, I've been reloading since 1965 and for the beginner I think the Lyman book is the way to go as they use all brands of bullets for their loads. One word of caution if your family members get caught bringing back powder, bullets, brass and primers they could be fined or worse for exporting these items out of the US as they need export permits...

Start by buying a copy of The ABC's of Reloading. Look into an RCBS Beginner's Kit. Gives you everything you need less dies and shell holder.
Your family can bring equipment, but like 270bob says, not components.
