How to Store Ammo??

I figured ammo cans is best for Long term storage and plastic storage bins wouldn't cut it

If you keep on the silica gel packs. If they get too saturated and not allowed to dry out, than you will get a moisture problem and rust.

A wooden box would be cheaper lol

I store mine in a old 762x39 wooden crate, ammo just tossed in ziplock bags. There is 30 carbine, 762x51, 762x54R, 22LR, pistol ammo. Store it sideways too.

How to store ammo? To the right. Always to the right. Unless you're an evil southpaw, then it's to the left. :p

Which retailers sell silica packs ? Walmart ? Canadian tire ?
I never throw them away when they come in retail packaging with the stuff I buy. Over several years, I've accumulated quite substantial plastic bag of them (I keep them in double bags, so they don't absorb moisture from the air). I only keep the bigger packs, of course, and throw away small ones.

Apparently, you can re-dry them in a microwave, google it, there are instructions on the web.

Saturated silica packs don't cause excess moisture, they just won't hold any additional moisture from my understanding

Some of them u can dry out but I had a bunch that were turned to a hard gel and those cant be reused .
They initially come in a powder form and once they start to saturate they can hold %220 water, but they can't be dried out once they change to gel form

In a cupboard in the laundry room........worked for 35 years so far and many more to come. What happens if your ammo gets wet in the field? You going to throw them out?

Keep it simple and dry.

That explains alot! No more sloppy storage for me.

Unless there is literally no room between the round and the container you are wrong

Shawn

For the bullet to end up moving yes, I'm talking about the possibility of the pressure buildup causing the container itself to explode (how big of an explosion I'm not sure, it might just be a little poof). Personally I leave my containers cracked open to let moisture get out, sealing it up traps any moisture in the air inside the container which could condense in the winter as things cool.

I can't see how leaving a water proof (air tight?) ammo can slightly open is a good idea. If the seals are good air and moisture wont get in :s
Leaving them open defeats the purpose of trying to protect /store them in a sealed ammo can
I could be wrong but my common sense doesn't agree wth yours

I think this point about sealed ammo cans exploding, is an important subject. If your ammo cans are of the military, metal, sealed type and you are
storing them in your house - AND you have a HOT fire where the house is fully engulfed, the ammo cans may explode like bombs.

Perhaps a simple one way vent could be made by drilling a hole and covering it with rubber so that the gases can simply flare off as each round pops?
