Hi all I have a tokerav and I'm toying with the idea of going with a two tone look. What's the process to stripping the frame? Hopefully I'm using the right terms if I'm not I'm sorry
Do you mean how to take the tokarev down or how to strip the metal coating down?
The milsurp section has a few great recipes, some use vinegar, others recommend different commercial solutions, thik the finish can be taken off a few different ways but I bet it would be the best place for a proper answer, sorry Im not more help!
Wow hot vinegar does the trick. Now the question is. Is there anything I can use to protect the medal once I have stripped it? I'm well aware that that is one of the purposes of bluing
If you polish the steel to a mirror like shine it actually makes it less able to hold a protective film of oil. For that sort of work I'd suggest a dry protectant such as EEZOX. Or possibly a really good automotive wax. But the EEZOX would be better since it's also a lubricant. Or don't quite make it look like polished chrome. Just get it to a slightly buff looking satin finish. Then it'll hold a film of oil just fine.
Use automotive polish with a high silicone base. It will keep finger prints off and keep it from rusting. It repels water and dirt, and dust. Keeps the gun nice and clean.
