How to tell if rifle is unfired, Rem 600 Mohawk .308

Hi all,

I have a rem 600 Mohawk in 308 that I bought a while ago, and for the life of me can't tell if it's been fired. There is no bluing loss anywhere, and the stock seems almost new with a couple of small kisses. The bore looks perfect. What can I look for to see if the gun has been fired?

Most (if not all) rifles leave the factory fired. Some manufacturers even include the target.

All the guns I bought recently ... brand new ... had a dirty barrel .... they all had been shot and pressure tested at the factory ....

It has been fired.

You can't, but if there is no bullet nose smear on the feed ramp, or primer ring on the bolt face, it will not have been used much.

I bought a new in the box ,94 winchester about 30 years ago that had never been fired.
it still had bluing salts in the barrel.

hard to tell for sure. Chances are it's been fired, just very little
