How to tell Sako rings

Sako's website has a whole section about the optilocks. Sako.fi
You should be able to at least see what they look like there.

There are other older style Sako rings, as well as leupold, warne, conetrol, talley, and redfield rings and bases that fit the sako dovetail.

I like leupolds, sako ringmounts, and Warne premier series if you can find them.

I refuse to use a mount setup that requires a seperate base on a rifle with integral bases.

I have the sako ringmount in 30mm, and they work well, but are still a fair bit heavier than my leupolds. Also, had to remove the recoil lug to get the ring far enough forward to mount my scope.

the two piece optiloc rings and bases are OK and have the self centering, stress eliminating, non marring plastic inserts like Burris Zee rings ( which Sako predated but apparently didn't patent) .... these Sako (and similar Tikka rings) have several issues though ... they are heavy, the plastic insert can break when being stretched over the scope tube and the ring screws are prone to stripping . The older Sako rings are more elegant IMHO and lighter .. they also remove without an Allen key. as mentioned various others made bases/rings for Sako including weaver ... be cautious though because some of the bases were designed to be "driven" on to the tapered dovetail and remain there by friction ....without any retaining screw or grub screw to tighten the base to the dovetail.....not a good solution if you happen to allow the rifle butt to hit the ground too harshly and get treated to the image of your scope sliding gracefully off the rifle onto whatever fate awaits it.
