Guys
Just wondering what you have tried and had success with when trying to get those big bucks to come out during the day?

My situation is I have a perfect spot on private property surrounded by hard woods on one side and soft on the other with a swamp in the middle and a blueberry field to the north, i set up stand off to the side of the swamp and have some trail cam picts of nice 8 and 10 and 12 pointers coming out to feed on my apples but only at night. i know they are in the swamp but there is no way for me to get in there and see one the bull rushes are way to tall. So I am just wondering how I can change their pattern and get them to come out during shooting hours.

Two situations come to mind that would give you a chance @ those nocturnal bucks.

(1) The buck follows a hot doe during daylight hours & BOOM!!!

(2) You put yourself between the bucks bedding area & the bait pile... Generally the buck will be up & moving towards your bait pile during the daylight hours BUT not come out to the bait until it is dark... If you are waiting for him at a point along his trail, BOOM!!!

I'm sure other guys will have more ideas! Good luck!

Cheers
Jay

How late at night? We can hunt one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset in BC. Contrary to what the some folks suggest, a very high quality scope with a large objective lens and the proper reticle is needed to hunt all of legal shooting light in these circumstances. I currently use a Zeiss Victory HT 2.5-10x50 and suggest that as a good all-around scope. A lower priced alternative would be the Meopta Meostar 3-12x56.

What about shifting the food supply away from food that's available during the night? I use a corn auto feeder that feeds right at dawn and half an hour before dusk. I find the lack of food during the night shifts the deer movement. You can get better feeders that you can program to feed through out the day.

I have had the same issue in the past. I'd drive by at night and they'd be in the corn and gone before good light.
So, I would determine the night before that they were in the field, then I'd hike into my tree stand around 3 -4 am and catch them 100-200 yards away from the cornfied headed to bedding at first light.

Or slip in close enough to see exactly where they get up, flag the highest you can reach with survey tape, then back out and set a tree stand far enough away to not spook them yet be high enough to glass the area where the flag is until you can find the bedded deer. He will stand up or move sooner or later.

You need to get to the other side of the swamp, if that's feasible. They're likely just travelling through there to get to your bait, and bedding somewhere beyond it. Unless there are islands or dry spots in the swamp, in which case the deer might be bedding on those. Deer will get up and move around in daylight. Sometimes they don't move far, but they do seem to like getting up for a stretch midday.

In the rut they will move early mornings and earlier. So get in their earlier and if there are that many bucks looks for scrapes and start hunting them. Not a bad problem to have.
