How to verify antique status?

I am considering purchasing an antique revolver, I like the Webley RIC.

I was wondering if I found one how I would verify that it is an antique? If I bought it is there a printout that I could carry to show it's an antique?

I would prefer not to have the firearm individually verified through the CFO if possible but rather have an FRT type printout.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
You can get a printout of the FRT for a Webley RIC from anyone with the software. All RIC's are antique so long as they are not of the forbidden calibers. Most unlikely as they usually of British calibers. Most are 450 Adams, 455 MkII, or 442. Although some were not completed as finished complete assembled guns as late as 1930, all frame production ended in 1887. This makes all of them antique. Some have the dates into the 20th century stamped into them but this is just date of final assembly and not date of gun frame manufacture. That frame is the gun and what the CFC considers as the gun. I have/had many of these fine Webley's. You will note that Webley and Son is the maker. The hollow based winged bullet will also be on it. The company changed names in 1897 to Webley Scott and the winged bullet became solid based. You will only find the Webley and Son marks on them solidifying the antique status.

Go on armalytics.ca - it's the public, slightly dated version of the database compared to what the businesses get (March 29th, 2021 as of now) - you can register and print out a pdf.

I think you would be looking for FRN 25055 - just search for RIC and it's the second one down (but double check that it's the model you are getting, etc) Interestingly, there are prohibited entries so it's not so cut and dry... and the FRT printout might not be conclusive enough to show that the gun you would have is antique.
 
As they guys here say armalytics.ca is a good way of accessing a slightly out dated FRT. Any gunsmith or verifier and some gun shops have access to the FRT.
