Hey 3gunners, tactical and sporting shooters...

Posted the same question in sporting shotgun section, but can't get a any good anwser. I'm about to get a +2 extention for my semi. Now i'm wondering how I will pin it to respect the 5 3inches mag capacity.

How do you guys put a definitive plug into your extension?
Thank you!

I use Nordic Components extensions, which have a removable cap on the end.

I use a 1/2" wood dowel that is cut to the correct length. Then the wood dowel is glued into the cap with "Black Automotive Goop" from Canadian Tire.

*Careful not to get any goop on the threads*

I bought a 3/8" aluminum rod from Can Tire, drilled and tapped through a Nordic cap then Bondo'd in place. I'll snap a couple pics when I get home.

Edit: snapped a couple pics. Also, since the plug has to be permanent, I ground the face off of the machine screw with my Dremel and touched everything up with the ol' flat black spray bomb. The "plug" has held up for 4 years of 3 gun, trap and lots of local tactical shotty nights! You can tell the gun has been used hard, lol

Be advised because you didn't put the brand or type of shotgun, you cannot extend the mag to fit 5 3" shells if it is barrel stamped for 2 3/4" shells that would be illegal. It is only legal to put smaller shells at a higher capacity then what it is designed to hold. But if your saying it only held 3 3" shells and you are extending it +2 then my explanation is mute.

thank you guys... really like this alu rod drilled et tapped into endcap. Kind of the best permanent solution.

And yes my semi is chambered for 2 3/4 and 3in.

So does that count as permanently being alter? Seems like you can just remove it.

Reason I am asking I need to do the same mod to mine, but just want to be clear it mets legal requirements.

I think if you plug a magazine, the baseplate has to be "pinned" or welded shut. That being said, with the sig x=change kit I got, it had a 17 round magazine with a hunk of aluminum epoxied to the follower. the magazine was able to be opened, I had pinned the baseplate to the magazine, as I didn't want a prohibited device charge as the body of magazine was unaltered. I did get it from a site sponsor, pretty big one at that.

I used a piece of thin aluminum broom handle from the dollar store, wrapped with electrical tape to fit the mag tube extension then jb welded into the end. With this method you may need to trim the spring.

So I am being told by a firearms instructor here in Manitoba who has asked the CFO if this is legal and they were told no because this is an alteration to the original magazine. Even though in my mind it still meets the legal requirement of no more than 5 rounds of in my case 3" shells. Which is what my shotgun is chambered for.

Can anyone point me in any direction where there is something in writing to refute this claim.

Have to love our legislation where no one knows what is legal. But many people of "authority " have an opinion or interpretation of what is legal.

Which instructor are you referring to? You can purchase plugged magazine extension from a few site sponsors, I can't imagine them selling anything illegal.

I Run Guns (forum sponsor) brings semi-auto shotguns into Canada every month.

They plug the magazines exactly like I do, with a wood dowel and automotive goop.

This has obviously been approved by the CBSA, who I assume get their info from the RCMP.

the cfc is not the law, no more then a police officer is the law, the CCC is the law.
The mag should be permantly blocked to hold the maxof 5rds 5.9rds of the max lengh the gun was made for, so for the 3.5 inch gun that 7/8 rounds + for 3 inch that 6/7+1
bbb

I use a 3/4" copper pipe with an end cap (backwards) soldered to it and cut off. Drill a hole in it and rivet to cap end of shotgun. Spring runs inside copper pipe and I believe the rivet meets "permanent" status.
Anyone requiring further info please PM.
