How well stocked are you?

I have a good supply of rifle primers but short on powder.
Enough pistol powder for several years, but only 800 Small pistol primers for the upcoming IPSC season.

About 500lbs of lead sitting around so I'm good for bullets for awhile yet!

I thought P&D just came up with 150K of small pistol primers, I like to use them in the hornet. FS

Availability has been spotty, but I think inflation is more a concern. I have hunting cartriges that 12 years ago sold for 16.99 and now go for 29.99.

Thanks to Harpers temporary foreign workers outsourcing Toronto IT jobs, I make less money now too. I'm damn glad I bought more than I needed and tucked away for a rainy day.

I'm good for a couple years, but always looking for more...............man there has been a drought with powder, bullets and primers. I guess that the Americans hit the panic button again.

I caught the reloading bug from helping my father reload ammo in about 1974, haven't looked back and have easily survived a few shortages since. Like others have said, buy when it is available then you won't have to worry about future shortages.

To me the critical item is primers. When I see them on sale, I buy several cases (5,000 to the case case). Whenever I get into the last case of a type (Large or Small, Rifle or Pistol) I get nervous and might even pay full price for another case.

My last purchase was 10,000 S&B small pistol from Epps. They were on sale at around $23/1000, I think.

I probably keep around one year worth of supplies, because I reload by batch.
I don't really feed the need to hoard.
Just me.

With the exception of RL15 I have enough to get by. I weathered the last drought and can do so again. As others have suggested, instead of searching for bargains, when at the LGS buy a canister or box of stuff you use regularly or want/need when you see it. Or grab a few pounds/boxes, whatever, whenever you happen upon a good price, whether you need it immediately or not. Before long, you'll have a pretty good hoard. Checking with sponsors is also a good practice.

For me to suffer, there would have to be zero availability of primers, powder, cases and bullets for 3-4 years. 'nuff said!!

Regards, Dave.

+1, except I might start to hurt after 2 years if I had a couple of busy summers. I might run out of .224 projectiles for my AR before that, though. I better get on that...;)

Up until the Sandy Hook shooting Dec 2012 I could get as much as I wanted of any powder, primer, case, or bullet from my LGS. Where they giving it away for free before Obama was elected? I haven't been reloading that long.

I started reloading in late 2009. Through the summer of 2010 it was really hard to get some powders and almost any brand of primers. It eased at the the end of 2010 and was pretty reasonable through to the Sandy Hook shootings, then fell apart again.

It would be safe to say that most people have a lot bigger reserve tucked away than they would have kept 10 years ago.

I think that is a fair statement. After the 2009-2010 shortages I try to keep a 3 year supply of everything in stock, but that gets expensive.
