How widespread is IDPA in british columbia

So i'm looking to get into the action shooting game in the near(ish) future and i am leaning toward IDPA. The only problem is that ISPA seems to be the bigger organization.
Will i end up doing both or can i find true happiness and plenty of shooting in IDPA. I live just outside of abbotsford if that helps any.

as Mas says, all affiliated clubs are back east (that means over the Rockies to us).
you still haven't come out and tried S&D to learn, nor have you checked out any of the clubs that have IPSC practices going on. Maybe you should do that before you decide to move to Alberta so you can shoot IDPA?

We have been shooting IDPA style shooting up here for three years and will affiliate with IDPA next month wiht full accreditation and with certified IDPA Range Officers and hopefully one IDPA Instructor.

THat doesn't do you much good in Abbotsford but I can tell you you can expect IDPA to grow in B.C. over this summer and next.

Ease up on slavex he is a good guy and would give you his shirt off his back if you needed it. He is also a guy who will spend time with you showing the ropes. Sorry to hear your first encounter didn't go well. It will, Rob is not one to hold on to anything.

Abbotsford Sunday shoots are excellent. While they tend to be IPSC orientated I am not so sure there is much difference between what they do and IDPA. Good bunch of guys there. Most can hit the back wall pretty much everytime.:D I shot with them for four years before moving NOrth.

For what is is worth I enjoy IDPA more than IPSC but that is just me. I also drive to Pr. Rupert and shoot with the IPSC guys over there because I enjoy there company. You will enjoy shooting at Abbotsford at their sunday matches. Say hello to them from Bob in Terrace.

I answered Andre's PM's and emails, discussed S&D nights and was told that he'd "be there". No show. I have better things to do then to keep answering the same thing over and over and over and over again.
 
Had a great night of shooting with Slavex, sometimes all you need is a face to face meeting and things can be resolved. The internet can really create misunderstandings sometimes.

anyhow as I mentioned to Canuck, I'd love to see someone grab this by the horns and get our club back into IDPA again. we so seldom run the Sunday nights where this used to happen. We were affiliated for one year with IDPA back in 1999 or 2000 (honestly can't remember). And all the regulars were too. But we had a few issues, number one being the rule about non-members not being allowed to shoot more than once at a match. Well we ran matches every week on Sunday nights, and a lot of the guys really couldn't justify the expense of joining the IDPA just so they could come have some fun on Sunday night. These people had no intention, ever, of going to the USA to shoot IPDA, and only wanted to come out and play with us. In the end everyone at the club felt that way. There were no other clubs interested in joining IDPA in the Lower Mainland, and the nearest one in the USA, at that time, was a 3 hour drive south.
Things have changed though, maybe someone who is one of my regulars at S&D would be interested in spearheading this. I'll ask tonight.
I'd probably join back up, if someone decided to do it, but not sure. As I honestly enjoy IPSC more, higher round counts, far more diverse stages with movers and fancy go fast props. and the ability to shoot freestyle. Those are big pluses in my book, but may not be for others. We certainly have enough room to add another group to the mix. And I would love to see more pistol people at my club, lots lots more pistol people, to keep the stick throwers in line.

I hear what your saying, I am not a big fan of the 1 shoot rule either, but that is exactly what caused the explosion of DPA stuff here in Ontario. As far as the props and stages go the sky is the limit as long as it is kept safe. As for the round count I believe that they are trying to stay in within the limits of what a concealed carrier might realistically carry. As far as the cost of membership, what about hosting a match every now and then and charging a nominal fee which is used to pay all or part of the membership fee to the highest non member on the range. Just a thought. I know when you were involved with IDPA that there were not many clubs or members, but we have clubs poping up everywhere now, members galore, and no end in sight. Provincial and Nationals are not to far off in the future as well. We are even toying with a concept of holding Nationals at several clubs on the same day on identical courses of fire across the Country to save shooters money on travel, this will take some serious coordination but if the will is there, there is always a way!

Biggest problem with IDPA becoming more popular out here is the round count. The general concensus out here seems to be "LOTS AND LOTS OF ROUNDS!" which doesn't fit in too well with IDPA philophy.

Even at my club, when we tried to develop Tactical Pistol matches, people STILL wanted to put on 30+ round count courses of fire. Yup. Tactical all right. :p
